A romantic melody built around a military marching beat. The intro to Invincible was originally composed whilst in a motel in the Twin Peaks.[8] Bellamy has described himself as having been bored at the time of the intro's conception, due to the band being ill, and the weather consisting of snowfall. Matt believes that this is a very optimistic song. He believes that Invincible is the "heart" of Black Holes and Revelations. When recording the marching drums, the band set up microphone by a window and marched towards it drumming, to build up the impression of an approaching army.

The track sounds like a soundtrack to a spaghetti western set in the far reaches of the galaxy and features a chain-smoking trumpeter called Franco. The intro features sounds of horses neighing and galloping, as well as laser guns firing. Dom: "Matt was at the back of the bus in Arizona, repeating the jerky riff to death, outside we could see the desert rolling...all that went very well together. Galloping horses, Texas, trumpets etc. We wanted to depict a journey, to make it sound like Joe Meek." The song will feature in the video game Guitar Hero 3 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, 2 and the Wii.

The opening lyrics, "Fear and panic in the air" may be a reference to Mars, in that the red planet's two moons are named Phobos and Deimos, who were the Greek gods of Fear and Panic. Such a connection would fit in with numerous references to Mars in the album. Possibly one of the songs mentioned in the Daily Star feature "Matt Girls Good Grief" that were inspired by Matt's girlfriend nagging him. Used in trailers for Children of Men (2006).

Matt has described the recording of this anti-church song, using the organ at St. Mary's Church, Bathwick, as a "dark moment" in his life. The earliest known performance used a grand piano rather than an organ or keyboard with organ effect. A video can be found of this performance on the DC Muse Hub. Not to be confused with the later song, Thoughts of a Dying Atheist on Absolution.

A blend of baroque melody, high pitched vocals and metal. Live favourite on the 2001 and 2002 tours. Played occasionally during the Absolution and the Black Holes and Revelations tours. Matt uses both falsetto and whistle register ranges exclusively, peaking at A♭7 during the chorus. Matt has said the song was inspired by a dream he had in which he was in desert and there were giant blades swinging from the sky.

LYRICS
The name "Muscle Museum" comes from the dictionary. Muscle comes right before "Muse", and Museum right after. Was played at just about every show from it's release up until the 2006 Black Holes & Revelations Tour. The band did not play this song during the 2006 tour until Agora Theatre on September 10th. Matt: "It's about the conflict between the body and the soul or mind. It's how sometimes one element of your being will not allow something to happen. For example, say your body wants to have sex with a girl but your mind reminds you that you have a girlfriend. It's that inner conflict. Mostly problems. The problems the body can cause the soul. All minds and souls will be connected in cyberspace, and bodies will become a thing of the past. I got the idea from a book a few years back."
LYRICS
Rarely played live. This song was intended to be released on Origin of Symmetry. Four possible interpretations: 1 - This is probably an affection for someone but its gone too far. 2 - This is a song about God, and it's saying how he isn't even listening to what people are saying. 3 - Another leader, who is destroying the world, such as in Take a Bow. 4 - About a person who, despite his hard work to the world around him (trying to be #1), he is not acknowledged. Now he is in a rage. He now blames the world for his failure and has plots to create havoc and destroy the world around him to set things right.

A "misleading" Showbiz-era style intro of tinkly piano, which then proceeds into Origin of Symmetry era sound, riffs and distortion. Matt: "a feeling of not being connected to each other, but we are, and it's a feeling of the mind evolving from the body, but when that happens you just get this yearn to do something physical and feel something sensational, physical-ness-ness". 'New Born' began life as a piece played in sound check. Chris: "I think it was the first decent video that we did. We went to Prague. They kind of built this big set but the set was turned on its side, so the wall was on the floor". Matt: "The idea was supposed to be that we were playing on the side of a wall. No-one got that bit - everyone always thinks that the camera was at 90 degrees. I think it's because we didn't have the crowd there, we had to do the crowd separately on bluescreen and morph them together. Compromises were made. But we ended up with something reasonably good, I think."

An early Muse song. It's about online relationships. The original version which featured on the Muscle Museum EP under the name "Instant Messenger" featured the AOL voice saying "You've got post". However, due to legal pressure from the aforementioned company, this was removed for the single version and the song was renamed Pink Ego Box. At 0:24 in Instant Messenger, an automated womans voice can be heard saying "you've got post". Also on Instant Messenger, Paul Reeve provided backing vocals.

he song is a semi-fear about the evolution of technology and how it appears to be evolving faster than we are. Matt was apparently on magic mushrooms when he recorded it. It is also rumoured that the meaning of the song is his love for his guitar, or it could be criticizing todays new technologies such as the internet, which are supposed to be encouraging people to communicate when it really separates them. Dom: "That song’s about putting emotion into something that has no soul - like a child’s teddy bear or a computer. And also what it would be like if we could genetically engineer puppies that never grow old."
